ADVANCED COSMETIC PROCEDURES

Skin Tags
Skin Tags are very common and most frequently found on the neck and face. They often appear with a neck like a mushroom and vary in size from a tiny speck, smaller than a grain of uncooked rice, to the size of a large pea or even larger. They are often found in areas of friction such as the underarm, under the breasts or around the neck where necklaces may irritate.

Treatment:

Treatment involves using advanced electrolysis and treating the skin tag with a fine sterile probe whilst carefully avoiding 'good' skin. The tag will change in colour and will drop off in the next few days or may require a further treatment a few weeks later. No incisions or stitches are necessary and the area should heal completely within 2 days to 3 weeks maximum.

Milia & Campbell de Morgan

Milia are tiny white lipid-epithelium plugs. Their exact cause is unknown although they are often related to diet with a high cholesterol count, excessive Vitamin C, a too rich moisturising cream and also associated with dry skin which can be acidic. They contain keratin and sometimes get quite hard. They lie very superficially under the skin and are very easy to treat with Advanced Electrolysis techniques.
We are also able to treat Campbell de Morgan (blood or red spots) in the same way. The treatment is simple, quick and effective.

Facial Thread Veins

These are not broken capillaries but rather permanently dilated capillaries. They have very thin walls, which constantly dilate and constrict. As we age, these vessels lose their elasticity and can become permanently dilated.
There are numerous causes including: ageing, hereditary, pregnancy, the rubbing of spectacles, smoking, energetic sports, temperature extremes and harsh weather exposure, hormones and skin fragility. They are commonly seen in a maturing 'English rose' complexion.

Treatment:

Facial thread veins can be treated with laser or advanced electrolysis.
For advanced electrolysis a consultation and patch test is required prior to treatment, with each treatment lasting from 15 minutes.   The tip of a small probe is used with a tiny energy current to remove the blemished area.   The treatment itself can be a little uncomfortable but easily tolerated.   There are minimal after effects, with a little redness, warmth and scabbing to be expected. The tip of the finest, smallest probe is introduced along the line of the blemish and a tiny energy current is discharged.   The current heats up (and coagulates), the tiny capillaries which are then 'starved' of nourishment from the larger vessels resulting in their eventual demise.

Spider Naevus

This is treated in the same way, either using advanced electrolysis or laser. A Spider Naevus is a centrally dilated blood vessel, with smaller capillaries radiating from it like the legs of a spider.
They can be found in isolation or gathered together in clumps on areas such as the cheeks.

It is advised to apply Sterex Aloe Vera gel twice daily to the area, which promotes healing and helps prevent infection.   No incisions or stitches are necessary and the area should heal completely within 2 days to 3 weeks maximum.

Microdermabrasion

A revolutionary, safe and painless procedure with an average session taking 30 minutes, earning its reputation as a true lunchtime peel. Many people notice a difference in their skin’s appearance after the very first treatment, and after the recommended course of treatments, you can expect a glowing, smooth, even and bright complexion. Microdermabrasion can also be an ideal one-off treat for your skin before a special event or occasion.

Microdermabrasion FAQ

What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is an aesthetic procedure where the skin is exfoliated mechanically. Fine streams of medical-grade, sterile corundum crystals are applied to the skin gently via a hand piece of the main unit. When the crystals make contact with the skin’s surface, the dead outer layer of skin is removed. The crystals and dead skin cells are vacuumed off the skin by the unit simultaneously. The process rejuvenates the skin in a number of ways. The combination of skin exfoliation and the slight vacuum stimulates the underlying structures to produce new, healthy cells in the basal layer of the epidermis. This leads to increased cell turnover and improved blood flow. The average time for complete cell regeneration to the surface of the skin is about 4-5 weeks at which time patients should start to see significant results.

How many sessions will I need?
This will be determined in your initial consultation. The amount of sessions required depends on your skin type and the area being treated. Optimum results are obtained through a number of treatments, typically four to eight, spaced 7-14 days apart. Initial treatments are performed more conservatively, allowing assessment of any skin reaction. There is virtually no healing time required after microdermabrasion, as rebuilding of the outer layer of the skin is rapid.
What skin complaints does microdermabrasion treat?
Microdermabrasion offers a solution to a wide variety of skin complaints including acne, acne scarring, congested and spotty skin, enlarged pores, sun-damaged skin, blackheads, dull skin, chicken pox scars, fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots or pigmentation. It is very good for ‘post-tan’ skin to even out skin tone.

Can any type of skin be treated by microdermabrasion?
Yes, regardless of age or skin colour. Almost any area of the skin can be treated with microdermabrasion, including the face and neck, elbows, knees, hands, feet, back and shoulders. Microdermabrasion is also a useful treatment for stretch marks on the abdomen or hips. The procedure is suitable for men and women and can be used on virtually any part of the body.

Are there any side effects?
Very few. Microdermabrasion does not use chemical acids, as other peels do, and consequently it is much easier to predict results. The desired result can also be accomplished in gradual stages, and eliminates any soreness or redness or recovery time. Most people see results after their very first session of microdermabrasion. The treatment is safe and has been used in the US for over 15 years. It is virtually painless and skin will suffer from minimal trauma. You will be given aftercare advice following the procedure.
