Electrolysis

– the only permanent method for hair removal

Electrolysis has been shown to be permanent in over a century of use. Its permanency has been well recognized by knowledgeable physicians and is also testified to by hundreds of scientific articles published in the medical literature.

Because electrolyisis is a permanent procedure, it is important you are sure about the treatment before you have it.
KEY FACTS

·        Used in various forms since 1875!

·        Over 125 years of clinically proven safety and effectiveness.

·        First used by the medical profession and remains the tried and trusted form of permanent hair removal

·        Three modalities or types of electrolysis: Short wave diathermy, Galvanic and the most effective Blend Method
What is the Blend Method?

·        The Sterex Blend method is a modern electrolysis treatment that is gentle, effective and confortable.

·        Treatment is ‘tailor-made’ to suit you and can be carried out on virtually any part of the body. (excluding the inner ear and the nasal canal area). A Doctor’s written authorisation is necessary before an electrologist can remove hair from a mole or birthmark.

How does Electrolysis work?

·        A fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle where a small amount of current is discharged at the root of the hair where it receives its nourishment.

·        By repeatedly treating the hair in this way the hair is unable to grow back

·        This is a highly skilled procedure and the competent Electrologist has undergone thorough training in all of the practical and theorectical aspects of the subject
What will happen during the first appointment?

·        You will have a thorough consultation

·        You will have a chance to ask questions about the treatment

·        You will have a chance to experience the treatment

·        Your Electrologist will discuss with you a ‘Treatment Plan’.

What does the actual electrolysis procedure involve?

The procedure involves inserting a metal probe into the hair follicle to the depth of the dermal papilla (the base of the hair follicle). A current will then be discharged at this point to cauterise the hair follicle, hoping to render the follicle incapable of producing another hair. Each hair is probed individually and then epilated (removed) using tweezers.
What about hygiene?

·        We always use Sterex disposable needles to totally eliminate any risk of cross-infection

·        The individually packed sterile needle will always be opened in front of you

·        Using this method every client has a new sterile needle for each treatment
Is it expensive?

When compared to the prices of other health and beauty-care services and the cost of dealing with excessive hair using temporary means, electrolysis in most cases, is very affordable. Remember, the problem is being dealt with permanently and not just on a short-term basis. Packages available - purchase a course of 6 treatments and only pay for 5! (see price list on 'Home' page).
Services for men

Excessive, undesired hair growth is not gender biased; men often seek electrolysis treatments to remove unwanted hair from a variety of areas. Brow, beard and ear grooming as well as body work are all common areas that men have treated.

How long does it take?
If starting from scratch, you should be prepared to make regular appointments over the course of 18 months to 2 years for most areas of the face or body. You will not need to attend so often towards the end, just a few short appointments to clear up any stragglers. If you cannot attend very often, or you pluck or wax during your treatment then it will take longer. However, even if you stop electrolysis halfway through you can pick up where you left off anytime, as the electrolysis you have already had will still have destroyed many hairs.

Isn’t that a long time?
If you had started a few years ago, you would be hair free by now! Do not think of it in terms of time taken; think of it as time saved in the future and an investment in yourself that will last all your life.

Regular appointments spread out over 1 to 2 years will result in PERMANENT hair loss THAT WILL LAST YOUR ENTIRE LIFE (if you do find the odd few hairs growing later on in life you can be assured these are newly developed hairs and not treated hairs returning).

Consistency in maintaining a prescribed course of treatment scheduling will significantly influence progress. As the treatment progresses and hair growth decreases, sessions become less and less frequent and shorter in duration.
Appearance of Treated Areas

Following treatment, there may be a slight redness and/or inflammation. This will vary from person to person and is temporary, disappearing after only a short time. Occasionally, pinpoint crusting may occur on treated areas. This is a normal healing process. Specific aftercare procedures based on individual considerations will be recommended to facilitate natural healing. Aftercare will involve normal cleansing, application of an antiseptic and aloe vera gel, avoiding excessive sun exposure for several days and refraining from scratching or irritating the treated area. Using sunscreen on a daily basis is highly recommended for everyone to protect the skin from sun damage, and thus premature aging.
Are Treatments Painful?

Electrolysis can cause some slight discomfort, which is relative to the clients’ tolerance and the area of treatment. If a client experiences discomfort, adjustments can be made to create a more comfortable treatment. Avoidance of sugar, alcohol and caffeine prior to the treatment will enhance your relaxation and help you to maintain a calm nervous system.
Electrolysis Vs. Other Methods

Tweezing and waxing remove only the hair shaft, leaving the dermal papilla and the matrix, which are capable of producing more hair. In fact, the violent action of tweezing and waxing can sometimes actually stimulate the follicle to grow a deeper, coarser, stronger hair.

Shaving and depilatories remove only surface hair, even the fine vellous hair which should remain to give your face a soft appearance. Shaving promotes ingrowns and due to the blunt ‘cut’ of the razor, all hair returns ‘stubbly’. The use of depilatories can cause a chemical burn of the skin surface tissue, which becomes red and irritated.

Bleaching coarsens the hair by making it more porous and dry. In many cases, bleached hair can be just as or even more noticeable due to the change in texture and contrast of color.

Laser/IPL hair removal is not suitable for all skin or hair colors, as it is pigment driven: blonde, white or grey hairs are not suitable for laser hair removal and although advances have been made over the last few years, there are still very few lasers that can treat darker skin types safely.  Electrolysis treatments are often sought to clear the treated area after a series of laser treatments or to clear blonde, white or grey hairs. Electrolysis is suitable for all skin types and all hair colours.

After the procedure, you will be given after care advice by your Electrologist and an advice slip to take away with you. This is just to make you aware of the common reactions following the treatment and things to avoid for a period after electrolysis.

All consultations and treatment sessions are held in the strictest confidence.
